Prepare a complete optical lens enquiry
A useful lens enquiry connects the optical prescription with the mechanical drawing and the inspection plan. Use the following checklist when preparing a custom glass lens project for review.
Optical and material requirements
- Provide the lens prescription, surface types, clear aperture and the intended operating wavelength or wavelength range.
- Specify the glass manufacturer and grade, acceptable alternatives and material documentation requirements.
- For aspheric surfaces, include the coefficient convention, units and design data needed to interpret the prescription.
- State coating requirements, the coated surfaces and the performance to be evaluated.
Mechanical interfaces and inspection
- Identify outside diameter, center thickness, edge geometry, mounting interfaces and the drawing datums.
- Specify surface form, roughness, centration and cosmetic requirements individually, with units and acceptance criteria.
- Agree the test method, measurement aperture and reporting format for each critical characteristic.
- Define which records must accompany the prototype or production batch, and how samples will be approved before further manufacture.
Confirm the quotation scope
Supply prototype and production quantities, the required delivery date and any packaging or traceability requirements. Manufacturing feasibility, inspection scope and delivery schedule are confirmed after technical review. A general machining precision statement must not be substituted for an agreed optical form, roughness or centration specification.
The typical lead-time starting point is approximately one week, adjusted for the lens requirements, material, quantity, finishing and inspection. The quotation defines the actual delivery commitment.
