Custom plastic optical components and precision housings
Metrixnano supports custom plastic components for optical assemblies, including lens-related parts, lens barrels, optical tubes and supporting structures. Send the component drawing, polymer grade and functional requirements so we can review the appropriate tooling and manufacturing scope.
Please distinguish an optical surface from a structural housing or mounting feature. These functions require different specifications, manufacturing decisions and inspection criteria.
Specify your plastic optical component
| Requirement | Information for review |
|---|---|
| Material | Exact polymer grade, colour, optical transmission requirements where applicable, and permitted alternatives. |
| Geometry | 2D drawing and matching 3D model, wall thicknesses, mounting interfaces and critical dimensions. |
| Optical features | Surface prescription, aperture, form tolerance, roughness and cosmetic criteria, if the part has an optical function. |
| Mechanical features | Datums, fit, alignment, dimensional and geometric tolerances for the assembly. |
| Manufacturing scope | Prototype or production component, tooling requirement, quantity and repeat demand. |
| Delivery | Typical lead time is approximately one week, adjusted for complexity, new tooling, material availability, quantity and inspection. A project schedule is confirmed in the quotation. |
Inspection matched to component function
Agree the dimensional, geometric and optical acceptance criteria before manufacture. Measurement method, reference surfaces and inspection report requirements should accompany the drawing. Optical surface form and roughness are specified separately from the mechanical dimensions.
Material behaviour, geometry and manufacturing route affect the achievable tolerances. General machining precision figures should not be treated as automatic production limits for every polymer part.
Frequently asked questions
Can I request both optical and structural components?
Submit the individual drawings and assembly requirements. We review the optical surfaces, structural features and supply scope for each component.
Is new tooling included in the quotation?
Identify whether you need tooling, manufactured components or both. Tooling scope, ownership arrangements and delivery requirements should be agreed in the quotation.
How should I send project information?
Provide material grade, drawing revision, quantity, critical features and target date. Request an NDA before sharing confidential designs.
